Mixing Audio Before Upload

How to use the Mix Audio feature to process, normalize, and split your files before uploading.

While you can upload raw audio files directly, the built-in Mix Audio feature offers powerful processing capabilities to prepare your audio for Roblox.

1. When to Use Mix Audio vs. Direct Upload

You should use the Mix Audio step instead of uploading directly when:

  • Your source files need loudness normalization to sound consistent.
  • You want to adjust the playback speed and pitch.
  • Your source audio files are longer than Roblox's maximum 7-minute asset limit.

2. Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these steps to mix your audio:

  1. Select Source: Choose the folder containing your raw source files.
  2. Adjust Speed: Use the Speed slider to adjust playback between 0.5x and 2.5x. Note that this behaves like a turntable resampler—it changes pitch and speed together.
  3. Adjust Gain: Set your desired Gain level to boost or cut the base volume.
  4. Mix: Click Mix Audio to begin processing the batch.

Original files are safe: Mixing produces an entirely new set of files in an output folder. It does NOT modify or overwrite your original source files.

3. Reviewing the Volume Column

After mixing, pay close attention to the Volume column in the queue.

This column displays the estimated post-mix loudness of your tracks. Always review these estimates before committing the upload to ensure none of your files are unintentionally too loud or too quiet for your game.

4. The Automatic DSP Pipeline

When you click "Mix Audio," the tool runs your files through a comprehensive, automatic Digital Signal Processing (DSP) pipeline designed specifically for Roblox audio standards:

  • Smart Peak Limiter: Applies a safety ceiling to prevent any digital clipping or distortion.
  • Target-Peak Normalization: Ensures consistent, Roblox-safe loudness across all processed tracks.
  • RMS-Based Loudness Safety Check: Automatically attenuates heavily compressed (dense) sources that would otherwise sound overwhelmingly loud, even if they share the same peak level as other tracks.
  • Clean OGG Vorbis Export: Exports the final mixed files as optimized OGG Vorbis files stripped of all metadata tags, avoiding common Roblox upload rejections.

5. Automatic 7-Minute Chunking

Roblox strictly limits audio assets to 7 minutes in length.

If any track in your queue exceeds this limit, the Mix step will automatically slice it into sequential, seamless parts (e.g., Song - Part 1.ogg, Song - Part 2.ogg). This process requires zero manual editing on your end and guarantees your longer tracks are upload-ready.
